In a world which appears increasingly torn apart by hatred, incivility, war, greed, poverty and famine; it’s harder than ever to help people to understand, appreciate and follow the Wiccan Rede and to practice ethical magick which is loving, kind and harms none.
This is being written as a bit of a disclaimer and also as an explanation of magical ethics and the power of energy and intention.
Your magick can’t harm me. I just don’t think you can effective concentrate enough energy and intention to use against me in the short term to actually hurt me. And in the long term I am able to build up effective defences and barriers to block the magick or accept it as I will.
I view magick as a way we manipulate energy and intention to impact our own lives, enrich our own spirits and meet our own goals. We should always keep in mind the ramifications our magick might have, as it ripples outward from us, and of the way our non-magickal selves impact the people and the world around us.
But I’m not sure I believe that we can use magick for or on others, either to their benefit or detriment, in any degree significant enough to force them to do things they don’t want to do or take away their free will.
That’s not to say I don’t think you can send people effective healing energy, or perform foresight for them, or even create and walk them through a ritual melding your energy with theirs and using yours to guide them through the intent. I do believe in all of that, most especially because I believe people are given power to use in the service of others not themselves.
The reason for this disclaimer of sorts is because I will be sharing a love spell for Valentine’s Day. With all the myth and legend surrounding witchcraft and magick I just don’t want people to think that I’m encouraging others to bespell some poor helpless mortal, bend them to their will and force them to live in a relationship they don’t want. I don’t think it works that way, and I don’t think you could do it even if you wanted to.
I view magick as that low level hum of energy in all things, and as the visualization of the intent of the will. Witchcraft is the harnessing of this energy and directing it for a defined purpose. I don’t see magick as it is portrayed in the movies: a flash and a bang and instant results.
But just to be on the safe side, lets always keep our magick kind, thoughtful, performed only on ourselves and above all:
HARM NONE
Blessed Be!
